SA is also taken in high esteem when it comes to corporate integrated and sustainability reporting. Whilst we were commemorating our heritage month recently, we learnt that the World Economic Forum Global Competitive Report revealed SA leads the way when it comes to auditing and reporting standards.

It’s our turn to give back to the youth of South Africa

During the weekend of June 15 to 17, the country rightfully commemorated the contribution of the youth to South Africa’s liberation.

There is, however, a tendency to confine these contributions solely to the youth of 1976.

Before the Soweto uprising, young people under the leadership of Nelson Mandela, Walter Sisulu and Solomzi Mda established the ANC Youth League and its radical Programme of Action. Beyond 1976, the youth have continued to participate in shaping South Africa’s political trajectory.

“South Africa’s most prominent black businesses and black business leaders were celebrated at the 2012 Van Ryn’s BBQ Awards, held at Emperor’s Palace in Johannesburg on Friday, 19 October 2012.

Opening the awards ceremony was Susan Shabangu, Minister of Mineral Resources who presented the keynote address. “The theme for this year’s event aptly captures the essence of transformation in South Africa, namely ‘Creating a legacy and building a future’, which is consistent with the national plan of harnessing the development of entrepreneurs/and black industrialists to facilitate economic growth and subsequently reduce poverty.”

Tackling the crisis of youth unemployment

“During the month of May, international TV channels showed young South Africans participating in xenophobic attacks, Phumlani Mfeka, a bornfreeyoungster, castigated the Indian population and made several allegations against them in a letter (published by the City Press) and a group of young people dumped human (toilet) waste on the steps of the Western Cape Provincial Legislature.”

Lessons from the Bafokeng

“This year marks the 100 year anniversary of the promulgation of the 2013 Land Act. This act robbed black Africans of 87 percent of their land and turned them into refugees in their land of birth. The ANC should be commended for returning huge chunks of land to the descendants of the previous indigenous owners through the land restitution policy. When they became the governing party in 1994, they set the land restitution process in motion and thousands of land claims, lodged with the Commission on Restitution of Land Rights, have been settled.”
