The Entrepreneur Behind Sebata Group of Companies

The Entrepreneur
The entrepreneur behind Sebata Group of Companies is South African and Group CEO, Mr Matome Edmund Modipa. He holds a Master of Science (MSc) (Leadership and Innovation) degree from the University of KwaZulu Natal and a B.Com from the University of Natal. He also completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration with the University of Herriot-Watt (Scotland) and holds several development certificates from various institutions.

Prior to the formation of the Sebata Group, Mr Modipa was Managing Director of the Royal Bafokeng Economic Board (RBEB), an economic development agency of the Royal Bafokeng Nation with a mandate to develop the Small and Medium Enterprises sector, community skills, creative arts, sports and recreation development in the greater Phokeng and Rustenburg area.

Before this Mr Modipa was a senior manager at Eskom holding various posts including planning, promotion management, customer service, area management and contact centre management. He also spent time at Lever Brothers experiencing product marketing and marketing development.

Sakhile Ngcobo

MA Agriculture (UKZN); MA  Certificate – Social Impact Assessments (UJ)

Having a background in agriculture, forestry and rural development which yielded such achievements as the establishment of the Anglo-American Socio-Economic Assessment Toolbox and Mondi-Zimele, Sakhile has contributed sizably to the Anglo-American Group and in the mining industry in his role as the Head of Public Affairs at De Beers South Africa. His political rectitude and passion for maths, science, technology, youth emancipation and leadership is best demonstrated through his role as chairman of the Moses Kotane Institute and SASA Gold Exploration. While Sakhile has founded the PCS Education.

Foundation, and is currently completing a PhD in Marketing and Reputation Management in the Diamond Industry at WITS Business School, his record in integrity can best be expressed through his recent appointment as non-executive director of South African Diamonds and Precious Metals Regulator.

Thuli Mashanda CA(SA)

BA (Hons) Theory in Accounting Certificate; Chartered Accountant (SA);
Chair of Finance, Risk & Audit Committee (FRACO).

With over 19 years of applied experience in financials and auditing to a variety of industries ranging from start-ups to corporations, Thuli has served the likes of MTN, Multichoice and Transnet. She currently is a partner and director at Njapa Accountants and Auditors, and continues to apply her leadership talents with balanced judgement on several board committees. Thuli earned an education in Great Britain and honed her skills at Price-Waterhouse-Coopers.

 

Phumulile Mogale

B Juris (Uni. of North West); LLB (Uni. of the Witwatersrand); MAP (WITS Business School)
Board Secretary

Phumulile is an admitted attorney with specializations in civil and commercial litigations. She has gained a rich experience practicing the law in the magistrate’s court of South Africa and has since applied her skills to the banking, insurance and business administration industries. She has added value to corporates and public institutions specifically by way of risk management and compliance, as a company secretariat, contracts negotiation, commercial and employee relations. Her expertise in Human Resource related matters is strongly supported by related postgraduate certificates and an experience in conflict management and mediation.

Nomvula Rakolote

BA (Ed), Administration & HR Diploma, Diploma in Human Resources

Nomvula is currently the Registrar of the South African Council for Project and Construction Management professions (SACPCMP) where she has improved human resource and financial administration systems considerably. She “sharpened her teeth” in several capacities within the Arts and Culture sector, and has gained an extensive experience in developing and managing Arts, Culture and heritage related activities at the local, provincial and national level. Her strong communication ability has served faithfully on numerous language and heritage boards, and various professional bodies in the communication, education and construction sectors.

 

Thalita Boikhutso

Thalita’s passion for leadership is recognized in world-renowned leadership guru John C. Maxwell’s book “Put your dreams to the test”. She has also been invited by the University of the Witwatersrand and the Gordon Institute of Business Science to share her expertise on subjects such as change, performance and productivity management. With a string of professional credits to her name, Thalita is currently the Executive Chairperson of Alona Group, an investment, utilities and services company. She is also a non-executive director of Tsebo Outsourcing Group, Sasol Inzalo Public Ltd, Sasol Inzalo Public Funding and Puleng Resources. She was previously Group Chief Executive of Maxima Global Consulting and a Director at KPMG. She holds a Masters degree in Social Work.

Dr. Christian Forstner

A nuclear physicist with a PhD from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, Dr. Forstner specializes in demystifying the complexities of business for measurable advantages in achieving strategic goals. Amongst his portfolio of clients globally is Siemens, for whom he has previously directed business excellence on behalf of the president of Siemens Power Generation. Dr. Forstner is the principal strategist and process management consultant for many large organizations worldwide and impacts the lives of hundreds of thousands of people. He founded CFYourAdvantage.com which delivers business results and maturity in a way that is aligned to strategic goals, and achieved in a balanced and sustainable way. He is licensed to train company analysts and strategy assessors, and is also an assistant professor at a German University.

Matome E. Modipa

Chairman of the Board

Passionate about development & innovation, Matome was invited to deliver a paper at the CAEL conference on adult education in Chicago circa 2004. He also formed part of the presidential delegation visiting Brazil, Chile and Argentina. Aided by his Masters of Science in Leadership and Innovation, Matome developed and grew the Royal Bafokeng kingdom and its historical communities in a sustainable way through its Economic Board which he directed. His entrepreneurial spirit went on to found the Sebata Group of Companies which promises to gift the global economy with a commercial model born out of the wholesome values inherent to the African context. With several achievements under his belt at both Lever Bothers and Eskom, the world’s second largest utility company, there is no doubt that Matome is a visionary that delivers.

Mr Yousuf Tilly

A hardware and software engineer with 10 years formal experience in designing information solutions for various business and design applications. Yousuf went freelance, writing, designing and adding creative skills to technical projects that could benefit from better communication. He won a competition for a screenplay he wrote and got involved in film, leading to the birth of a creative studio which also started producing visual artwork and related print products. His artwork has since received invitations to some international events.
